About Douglas Beatenhead
My name is Douglas Deleath Beatenhead, and I was born on May 30th, in the year of 1952. The images you see are from decades of work. For the last twenty and thirty years of my life is what I have created. I’ll be working on a new painting that I wish to add to my tiny display of watercolors, which through the years I've painted. I'd feel better if I didn't have such a small collection. However, I am still young enough, and in time, I trust there will be more.
I became interested in watercolors since I was very young. I try very hard to put action and moods in my paintings. I also love to work with a lot of colors and I try to make them deep and rich. Every painting I do takes weeks or months to arrive at a level of my satisfaction.
It has become apparent to me that my paintings appear strange and different from many other watercolor works I've seen. I like to concentrate on new and different images that inspire intelligent and creative minds.
I like to explore new ideas, thoughts and creations and to give my viewers many different images and effects that may capture their imagination, curiosity, intelligence and attention. Unless needed, I rarely put human figures, animals or birds in my work--I want my viewers to feel all alone in my paintings. I do not paint from photographs, real life or other previous images--I desire to paint what I see in my mind.
To those who view my paintings and other art, I hope you remember my images when you leave your computer. I hope you find them interesting and fun to look at; maybe even give you a little smile and some thoughts and questions when you turn away.
With all do respects,
Douglas D. Beatenhead
